HRLN works on Dalit Rights across the board of its programmes. Dalits disproportionately face human rights violations on multiple fronts. At present, HRLN works on Dalit Rights across the nation. We are looking to deepen and strengthen our work in this area. For this, we are looking for a skilled, passionate and experienced person to join our team. This role will be based in Delhi or Mumbai, with extensive travel The successful candidate need not be a lawyer but must have knowledge of Dalit Rights.

General Job Description

  • Conducting fact-findings
  • Writing petitions
  • Communication with donors
  • Reporting to donors
  • Contributing to HRLN’s online presence in the area of Dalit Rights
  • Conducting and coordinating legal rights trainings
  • Networking with grassroots Dalit organizations and other stakeholders
  • Co-ordination with HRLN state unit staff, Dalit NGOs and other stake-holders
  • A good understanding of using social media to promote Dalit and tribal rights
  • Researching and writing material for the HRLN website
  • Organising meetings in the HRLN state units, liaising with unit staff
  • Organising national-level consultations
  • Coordinating the follow-up of actions that come out of the above meetings
  • Contribute to the DRI strategy, agenda-setting and priorities
  • Keeping abreast of latest academic thinking in the field of Dalit Rights and disseminating this information within the team and beyond

Human Rights Law Network Seeks Director level Person

HRLN is currently seeking Director level persons for its Women Rights, Health Rights and Reproductive Rights Initiative. These units engage in groundbreaking advocacy, utilizing litigation, public education and creative activism to further the rights of women and girls in India. This position will be based at the HRLN office at Delhi or Mumbai, with travel throughout India as and when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing fact finding missions to investigate cases on the denial of rights
  • Drafting and researching for cases, coordinating and liaising with various HRLN offices across India on existing litigation and advocacy work
  • Providing and coordinating trainings, consultation and workshops on raising awareness
  • Media work: involving writing press releases, following up on media coverage, giving press interviews
  • Documentation: recording and filing of case work and fact finding
  • Liaising and networking with grass root communities and NGOs
  • Fundraising
  • Website: updating the HRLN website

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate degree in law, social work, or human rights or political science.
  • Dedication and passion for furthering women rights, and human rights more generally
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good research and written skills (in English and Hindi)
  • The ability to process large amounts of information quickly and accurately
  • Willingness to travel throughout India
  • Suitable candidate should be able to take direction from Seniors but also work well independently, and use own initiative

Socio-Legal Information Centre invites you to submit a proposal for Consultancy for the Project - Catalysing Human Rights Institution for Effective Justice Delivery

The service is required for the project Catalysing Human Rights Institution for Effective Justice Delivery which looks at the functioning of the National and State Human Rights Commissions in India. The project is a three years four months long project and ending in February 2014. It is supported by the European Union.

The Human Rights Law Network is a national organisation of lawyers, academics and social activists dedicated to the use of the legal system to defend and protect the rights of indigenous people, dalits, women, children, prisoners, slum dwellers, persons with disability and unorganized workers. HRLN is looking for middle level and senior persons at Delhi to operate the various projects of the organization. The work will involve administration of the projects,  fact-findings, research and analysis, preparation of public interest litigations, trainings and the preparation of know-your-rights publications.  Persons applying should normally have a Masters degree with fair communication skills in English.  

We are looking for persons either with a background in law or social sciences with a good understanding of human rights issues.

In addition to pro bono legal services and public interest litigations, HRLN involves in advocacy, conducts legal workshops, investigations, publishes ‘Know Your Rights’ material and participates in campaigns. HRLN works with women, prisoners, dalits, workers, children, refugees, HIV positive people, the homeless, religious minorities and person with disabilities and others in collaboration with development organizations working on social movements and human rights.
