Andhra Pradesh govt sanctions relief of Rs 1 Lakh each to 18 rescued bonded labourer families

In response to a writ petition filed by SLIC in the Hyderabad high court, the Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each to 18 bonded labourer families released from Delhi, provided house sites and immediate relief of Rs 20,000 in Prakasam district. The government borrowed time to reply to the writ and is completing the rehabilitation process for the families. SLIC’s Hyderabad unit has cross-checked with the petitioners and discovered that the government has indeed reached out to them.
However, SLIC is considering not closing the case yet, as true rehabilitation of bonded labourers means much more than that as per law.
