Devendra was arrested and imprisoned under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Most lawyers refused to represent him and he was also unable to get assistance from the Legal Aid Services by the State. Advocate Swapnil filed an application to suspend the sentence and grant bail in the matter. Advocate Swapnil argued that the provisions of Section 50 of the NDPS Act, 1985 which are to be to be followed were contravened by the police. The court after hearing arguments provided bail to Devendra Dangi.
