Jammu & Kashmir: High Court directs states to expedite setting up of JJBs, CWCs in eight districts

|

On the directions of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir at Srinagar, the selection-cum-oversight committee, which recently met under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, selected members for the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and child welfare committee(CWC). The HC had directed the state of J&K to create posts for appointment of eight magistrates and granted two weeks’ time for this, following which the state created the eight additional posts of magistrates for eight out of 22 districts. J&K is the only Indian state which till date does not have JJBs and CWCs even though the JJ Act was enacted in 2013. Till date, all matters pertaining to juveniles are being tried by Chief Judicial Magistrate.
