PIL concerning compensation for families of the victims of 2021 Chamoli (Raini-Tapovan) Disaster, Early Warming Systems, Safety Standards in Hydroelectric Power Projects(HEP), additionally for sustainable management or removal of HEPs from upper reaches of rivers.

The petition pertains to the event that took place in District Chamoli in Uttarakhand and ecological fragility on the whole region which ensues in contributing to disasters, in relation to human life and ecological, when unthought human intervention spikes. Disaster which struck Rishiganga Hydropower Project and Tapovan Vishnugad Hydropower Project on February 07, 2021, as well as the the subsequent disaster that occured on April 23, 2021, became of epic proportion due to lack of monitoring of the entire Himalayan range and disaster preparedness. The petition highlighted the issues concerning payment of compensation to the families of the victims who lost their lives including daily wage workers, installation of an early warning system, safety standards of Hydroelectric Power Projects, effecting Disaster Management Plan, and for formation of an Expert Committee to recommend either  sustainable removal or management of hydropower projects in the upper reaches of rivers across Uttarakhand.

 The petition was filed by climate change activist, youth leader of Chipko Movement P. C. Tewari through advocates Kranti L C & Snigdha Tiwari.
