Sangita Vilas Ingle v. State of Maharashtra and Others (2017)2 SCC 728 This case involved serious allegations of infringement of right to life and liberty of the petitioner’s family by the police. SLIC filed a writ petition alleging torture of petitioner and her family at the hands of certain police officers are in the Bombay high court (Nagpur bench). However, the high court had dismissed the writ petition on the ground that some disputed questions of fact were involved. After considering the dismissal, the Supreme Court said that, "the writ petition requires to be considered on merits". It then remanded the petition to the high court and requested the court to take it up expeditiously and dispose it on merits, within the year.
