Shamlipur violence: Do not arrest until you find credible evidence, UP court directs police

|

Vinay Ratan was accused of being an accomplice in the Shamlipur violence. In its case, SLIC contended that Ratan was neither named in the FIR, nor he was actually present at the spot of the incident but he was somehow being shown as ‘wanted’ in the police report. Ratan’s father filed an RTI and was informed that he was not wanted in any case. His counsel contended that the police was unnecessarily harassing Ratan since he is a member of Bhim army. In response, the court said that it would not interfere in the FIR, and directed that Ratan would not be arrested in the present case till cogent and credible evidence was collected showing his complicity.
