Kerala ferha@slic.org.in Within weeks of joining the Kochi office of SLIC, Ferha requested to be relocated to the district Waynad, from the comfortable environs of Kochi, to work with the indigenous community. Ferha aspires to be a movement lawyer and over the course of the last two years has worked hard to cater to the legal aspiration of the movements in the region. Ferha’s work constantly calls upon her to travel to the interiors of forest villages to assist indigenous communities on cases from police excesses, trafficking, rights under the forest laws, among others. She argued for orders to reinvestigate the case against a client for offenses under the forest act after a confession had been obtained from him by torture.
