Bonded labourers rescued from Haryana Brick Kiln

After receiving a tip-off, bonded labourers – including women and children were rescued from a brick kiln in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The labourers who were trafficked had been working at the site for at least 10 months in abject misery and poverty. They were forced to work 14 hours a day and were monitored around the clock by the by principal employer and contractor. Around 43 labourers were rescued by the Bandhua Mukti Morcha(BMM), National Campaign Committee for Eradication of Bonded Labour (NCCEBL) and Socio-Legal Information Centre (SLIC) along with the help of local administration of Pehowa, Haryana on 27 June, 2019.

The trafficker, however, managed to run away.

Under the Bonded Labour Rehabilitation Scheme, 2016 the rescued bonded labourers received interim relief amount of Rs 20,000
