Kashipur: An Enquiry into Mining and Human Rights Violations in Kashipur, Orissa - Report of the Indian People's Tribunal on Environment and Human Rights

Written and Edited By Shravantl Reddy An eight-member multidisciplinary panel of the Indian People‘s Tribunal headed by Justice S.N.Bhargava (Retd.) enquired into alleged human rights and environment violations created by a bauxite-mining project proposed by Utkal Aluminum International, Ltd. (UAIL) in the Baphlirnali Hills, located in Kashipur Block, Rayagada District of Orissa. The Panel members visited Kucheaipadar which is the center of the resistance against this bauxite mining company and has inter-aha faced the ire of state repression. The panel conducted spot visits to Lanjigarh where Vedanta is operating to understand the impact that such a project could have. The panel also received testimonies floor the local tribals who would be affected by the coming up of the UAIL Project.
