State Level Awareness Program on Drug Abuse Prevention for Transgender Community

Considering the lack of awareness about laws and laws surrounding Drug usage. SLIC did a training for transgender persons in Telangana. This was done in collaboration with the Government of Telangana and the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD). NISD under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is responsible for carrying out a number of programmes and maintaining the National Council established as under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

It is recognising the high amount of drug and alcohol consumption in the transgender community, which is inextricably linked to the poor mental health conditions of transgender persons. The poor mental health conditions of Transgender Persons are also attached to a number of other factors such as discrimination, transphobia, queerphobia, lack of social welfare among a range of other financial and social issues.
