Webinar on State Level Training on Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020- Gujarat

Webinar on State Level Training on Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020- Gujarat. The Government had been pushing different versions of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 since the year 2016. Each time the Bill would be presented in the parliament protests opposing the bill would be raised across the country. The Bill was finally passed by the Rajya Sabha with bare minimum discussion on the 26th of November 2019 and on the 5th of December 2019, it received the assent of the President and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 came into force from the 5th of December 2019. Since then there have been three constitutional challenges to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 that have been filed in the Supreme Court of India and another constitutional challenge filed in the Karnataka High Court. For each of the cases the Supreme Court issued notices to the government, but gauging the reaction from the State it hardly seems that the cases have made any difference to the state. This was evident from the response of the government to issues faced by transgender persons across the country on issues they were facing during the pandemic.
