Rights of Transgender Persons during the Covid 19- Lockdown: Jharkhand

The Jharkhand High Court in order dated 17.4.2020 directed the State Government to ensure that meal and other facilities to the transgender as they are feeling helpless due to lockdown situation. 

The Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Sonal Tiwary for Amarjeet Singh who runs Utthan an organisation working closely with the transcommunity in Jharkhand, primarily sought welfare of transgender persons in the State during the nationwide Lockdown because of Covid-19 as they felt helpless. 

Learned Advocate General, Rajiv Ranjan without countering the averments made in the writ petitions submitted that the State of Jharkhand is duty bound to take care of transgender people also put forth his suggestion for immediate relief in this context for providing meal to the transgender. 

 The Bench comprising of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan & Justice Sujit N. Prasad nonetheless directed the State to filed a Counter.
